AIT BEN HADDOU

Starting from Marrakech at 8am we will enjoy spectacular views and very beautiful landscapes along the drive over the High Atlas Mountains and through the famous pass Tizi N’tichka at 2260metres.

We will reach the old village of Ait Benhadou; this was one of the most important villages in southern Morocco and a major stop for the caravans between Timbuktu and Marrakech. In 1987 the village was classified as a UNESCO heritage site of Morocco.

Nowadays, the village is largely deserted and is used as a background by many film producers. It has been used for several movies such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia and Game of Thrones. Most of the inhabitants of the village moved to live on the other side of the river, however, there are about ten families that are still living in their old Kasbahs.

We will have an interesting guided tour of the village followed by a traditional lunch in one of the local restaurants before we head back to Marrakech on the same road.
